St. Thomas is one of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. The island was formerly a Danish- Norwegian colony, as part of the Danish West Indies. It was annexed by Denmark around 1670 and sold to the United States in 1917. The city of Charlotte Amalie and the fort Fort Christian was founded by the Danes.

The island is located on the border between the North American plate and the Caribbean plate. Earthquakes, cyclones and tsunamis occur. The climate is subtropical with trade winds, relatively low humidity, little seasonal variation in temperatures. The rainy season lasts from May to November. St. Thomas is of volcanic origin and is characterized by mountains and hilly terrain.

The island was a very important center of commerce in the Caribbean because of its excellent natural harbor. The most important industry today is tourism. The airport on the island called Cyril E. King Airport.

On St. Thomas there is much one can do. Shoppe and sail, snorkel and sightseeing, or diving and eating. Try the island's world renowned golf course , picturesque beaches and spectacular nightlife. Take the Skyride 700 meters above the city or climb the famous 99 steps up from Charlotte Amalie for a breathtaking view of the Caribbean.
